Making Movies We Can Play

DIRECTING THE PLAYER CLOSER TO THE ACTION

GAME DEMOS & PROTOTYPES

This VR Game Demo features active ragdoll hit reactions combined with blended hit animations, all derived from the amount of force used in each punch.  Delight in dishing out combos at poor ole Dimples, who clearly had no idea who he was up against.  Clearly inspired by the greatest boxing video game of all time, I had great fun making this, and hope you have fun giving it a try!

CONCEPTS AND MECHANICS
ABOUT ME

I’ve been a fan of virtual reality for a long time, growing up with cyberpunk authors like William Gibson, Neal Stephenson, Richard K. Morgan, Neal Asher, and Bruce Sterling, suggesting a future of virtual environments and virtual combat.

Once 6DOF roomscale standalone VR became available, I saw it as a signal to combine the skillsets I had gathered while working in professional and independent filmmaking and performance to start down the road of VR game development.

I believe firmly that the future of entertainment involves greater interactivity with our narrative content.

As I enter my second year working with Unity, I’ve learned a lot about VR game design, animation, interactables and ragdolls while examining classic video games of the past, all in the service of     ‘making movies we can play’.
